I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that before this weekend, many were not familiar with the phrase "Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer" and why it’s use is more prevalent today than ever.
The WBGT is a comprehensive tool that is used by the Nebraska School Activities Association (and other various organizations across the country) to determine how to proceed with outdoor practices and games during times of extreme heat. It takes a combination of data including temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover into consideration to give you an accurate measure of heat stress. This data is then used to plan out activity intensity, duration, scheduled breaks, water consumption, et cetera. As the FVYFL (even though not affiliated) follows the lead of the NSAA, so will we follow the guidelines set forth for heat stress and outdoor activities. Those parameters can be found at the link below under the “Heat & Hydration Information” tab:
With the brutal heat and humidity forecasted for this weekend, all games have been postponed to either later times or different days. Please see the Schedules & Scores page to get familiar with the new game dates as the coaches decided what worked best for their unique situations.
Thank you for being understanding of this! The score sheet will be updated as these contests occur, and the standings will be updated after all Week #1 conference games are complete.
Stay cool!
